Funspot Tournament XI: Saturday

2600 - writer/artist - posted on Saturday, 05/30/09 21:27:41 EDT

It is Saturday evening and the tournament has been great! We touched base with a lot of friends and got some great interviews and video's. Gary has wheeled out some great surprises for us this year including a Cliff Hanger cabinet and... DEATH RACE! Yeah, Gary went all out and completely restored a "yellow" Death Race cab. We got two quick shot video's with Nicks camera and will be doing a full coverage/review with our miniDV camera tomorrow. The mood at the tournament is very laid back with a great turn out this year. Last night we met up with Mark Alpiger and the rest of the CAG members for a quick photo around the Crystal Castles cabinet, followed by a group dinner. We had a blast with the CAG members and even got to witness Dave break the world record on Afterburner. We will have photo's and some video's up hopefully by tomorrow evening the earliest. We will be putting together a complete overview of the Tournament which will include interviews, game footage, and some new surprises from this years Funspot tournament. UPDATE, We're having some problems with the updater, but for some reason I can edit this post. When we figure out what's wrong, Nick will post his two videos, but their up now on Blip

Bloggin' at Funspot!

Nick - writer - posted on Wednesday, 05/27/09 20:39:35 EDT

Hey everybody, Nick here to let you know about what's going to be happening this weekend and beyond. With the way we have the site set up, we'll be using it more Blog style. So we'll try to update a few times a week with anything we find interesting and also will be including our videos and any new comics when 2600 gets the time this summer.

This weekend is the 11th Annual Classic Arcade Tournament at Funspot in Weirs Beach New Hampshire. As I type this I don't know if I'll be going or not. The Captain is on his way home from Law School so if he can get access to a car, both of us will be up there along with 2600.

What we'll be doing is this. If we all end up going, we'll have recaps of the days events every night when we return home. If we don't end up going, 2600 will be keeping me in touch with any news and I'll post it as I hear it, so you'll be in the know if there's any new records broken or any other drama that might be happening. (Yes, drama over twenty plus year old video games...sad, huh?)

Regardless if we go or not, 2600 will be there, camera in hand to get footage of all the weekends events and we'll have them to share with you this summer. Lets just hope nothing of 2600's stuff gets "lost" again this year...

So keep it tuned here this weekend and we'll have all the news you need to know from Funspot!

ARCADE HUNTERS EPISODE 7!!!

2600 - writer/artist - posted on Saturday, 05/23/09 2:20:47 EDT

Hell must have frost because we just finished a brand new episode of Arcade Hunters! This episode is one we shot awhile ago at one of the best all year round pinball places Castle Video. Castle Video, as you have probably hard so many times from us, is an awesome pinball arcade/video store/book store/self storage facility. Captain Kirk has a great selection of tables that he is constantly rotating and maintaining. His tables are pristine as you can see and hear in the video. We actually shot so much footage that we couldn't fit it all in the episode. We will be uploading next weekend a whole bunch of extra footage that includes full game play footage with reviews and even interview with the owner Captain Kirk! So keep checking back and maybe hell might fully freeze over the day a new comic is uploaded! We have one more Arcade Hunters episode before we wrap up the first season and begin working on the second season. The first episode of the second season will be an extra long two part episode and will be released around the end of June.

Jack watch out there's a sniper.

WOW, when Nick told me that Mary Lynn (who plays Chloe on the show 24) phoned in her voice acting for the pinball, he wasn't kidding. I don't think even Ben Stein could have said the lines any less enthusiastically. Except for the voice acting, the game looks pretty cool. This summer we will hopefully get some nice footage with my camera of the table in action.

Time for some NEWS!!! Videotopia, the international traveling museum of video games will be in Rochester, New York from May 30, 2009 till November 1, 2009. The exhibit will include over 100 restored and new arcade games. Admission is free, but you have to pay for the tokens. A neat thing about the exhibit are the power up stations scattered throughout. These stations will have gaming trivia that if you answer correctly, you can win tokens. There are also information kiosks that contain historical information on video games, home consoles, and arcade games. Videotopia does a great job restoring their games. The Press Start crew got a chance to check them out a few years back at Philly Classic 5 where they donated a bunch of the arcade games for the convention. Press Start, in some shape or form will be checking out this exhibit sometime over the summer (and maybe even some international Arcade Hunters episodes from Canada!!!).

Enjoy the video and check back next week for some more stuff. The new Arcade Hunters episode is in the works and will hopefully be finished in a week or so. Also, mark these three dates on your calendar: 11th Annual International Classic Videogame Tournament May 28-31st at Funspot NH, Tokyo Game Action Auction June 6th Winchendon, Mass., and PAPA 12 World Pinball Championships August 13-16, in PA!!! Press Start in some shape or form will be attending these three events.

Back in the Wasteland

I shouldn't have told 2600 I would have the 24 video ready in time. I almost completely forgot it was Mothers Day weekend. When that weekend rolls around everything at my house goes insane. My mom has to make sure everything is perfect and it becomes a nonstop ride of fun to get the house clean and make sure we have enough food for the family.

I was able to get the 24 video done and was able to clip the two video together and it's up now on Blip, but since 2600 said he'd like to do news on Wednesday and a video on Friday, I guess I'll just link it on Friday. It's up now on the Blip site if you'd like to watch it now, but I will post it on the next update on Friday.

Here's where I'd have the news, but guess what...I don't feel like doing it. Why? Am I lazy? No, it's because I'm again addicted to Fallout3. CI and The Captain were the big Fallout fans when the first two games came out on the PC but I didn't really get into it with all the pointing and the clicking and whatnot. They did make 3 more accessible to people who weren't as used to adventure games and making it more like an FPS where you miss, but damn, the game's got me hooked all over again.

Since I got my new PC I knew I could play it and I got the game during Christmas break with a Best Buy gift card and it was the only game I played. Now with the final expansion, Broken Steel, it's all I've been playing for the past week and a half.

I had downloaded Operation Anchorage, but was pissed off when I found out I couldn't level past 20, so I held off on getting The Pitt and waited some more for the Windows Live problem and got Broken Steel when they put it back up to download.

Besides the game crashing on me for no reason, the game has been amazing even after a second run through. The first character I made was a Kenshiro type character from Fist of The North Star, who tries to make peace with everybody and is unarmed. Getting the Paralyzing Palm perk is awesome and one hit can make even the biggest Super Mutant will fall like a sack of bricks.

I'm using a character with guns now and with the other two expansions, I'm looking forward to getting more of them and trying out how they all work. So thanks for reading and we'll be back on Friday with the 24 Pinball video.
