Updated Wednesday & Friday Evenings

Tokyo Game Action Review and Otakon 08

Nick - writer - posted on Thursday, 08/07/08 0:28:55 EDT

Hey everybody, as CI said in the last post everybody's been busy here at Press Start. 2600 just got a new job so he won't be joining me for Otakon this year. I will be there solo and I will be doing to panel this year by myself.

The new "10 MORE Games You Should Play" panel will be taking place this Friday Night in Panel Room 1 at 12am to 1am. They had to change the time because I'm getting in there on Friday morning and that doesn't leave me much time to check into the hotel, get on line for my passes, check into panel ops and get set up for the panel.

I'll also be helping out my friend Meg on some of her panels and she also agreed to give me a spot on her table in the artist ally. So if your down in the ally, be sure to say hello. I'll have DVD's and T-Shirts for sale, so pick them up if you're there.

So for this weeks update will be the written review of Tokyo Game Action in Massachusetts. 2600 and I were there two weeks ago and we had an amazing time. Once again, big thanks to Andy and Chie for their hospitality.

Don't forget to click on the bottom of the link for pictures of TGA as well.

With 2600 recent computer crash, we're trying like mad to get out or little video show that we've been working on. Sadly all of the work he had done is gone, but thankfully he still has all of the tapes with the footage on them, so everything isn't gone.

Since I'll be leaving on Friday morning, I won't be able to do an update because I don't have a laptop to gain access to the internet. So I'd like to say for anybody who might have checked out the panels, met me in the Artist's Ally or just picked up a flyer, Welcome! Please feel free to check out the rest of the site and let us know what you think by joining our forums. I'll admit their a bit dead, but if I see people posting, I'll holler back.

Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you next week with some pictures and videos from this year's Otakon.

Press Start is going through quite a few changes recently, which accounts for the slow updates. For one, half of us have new jobs. This may mean that updates are more sporadic, but things should equalize at some point after which we will be returning to a somewhat normal update schedule.

In the meantime, 2600 threw out another World of Warcraft-related comic idea awhile ago -- which is somewhat ironic due to his unrelenting hatred for the game and all it encompasses. As I had more time to put into it at that point, I broke out some screenshots and some Photoshop and let it sit on my hard drive for awhile until we had a week with nothing new to post.

New Arcade Pictures!

Well, first off I'd like to say sorry to Dill and the rest of the folks at NAVA. We didn't make it to the meeting this month, but we will try our best to make it there in August.

The reason why we didn't make it is because we went up to New Hampshire yet again this weekend and checked out some new places. I'll have write ups of all the places we checked out and the videos will be coming along soon.

It took us a while but we finally checked out the Weirs Beach Boardwalk. We had first driven down there in the winter time when we got lost on our way to FunSpot. The only thing open at the time was one of the restaurant and a bar. Everything else was iced over and closed.

We checked out all three of the beach arcades and the each had something different to offer. Most of them had the usual redemption machines and new racing games, but they also had a handful of classic arcade games and pinball machines. We got a lot of play out of The Lord of The Rings pinball machine and they also had a really cool penny arcade basket ball game. TENACIOUS D!!

The second place we checked out was an arcade recommended to us from one of the NAVA members at the last meet up. Tokyo Game Action. This place came highly recommended due to it's large collection of fighting and music games.

When you look at their site, the few pictures make it look like a small arcade inside of a large bowling ally. Well, it's the opposite. TGA is pretty much a Japanese arcade in America. From all of the current games, the candy cabs, right down to the awesome food.

Big thanks to Andy and Chie for their hospitality and for keeping up with such an awesome place. If your into Japanese Racing Games, Fighting Games and Music Games and you live on the east cost, you owe it to yourself to make the trip!

Now for some serious business. 2600 went to update his computer and thanks to the magic of Windows Vista, it screwed up on him and he lost all of his info and he's trying like hell to back everything up. Thankfully all of the video footage is still kept on the tapes but he'll have to re-edit everything for our new video show we're working on.

He's still working on the new print comic, so we hope to get that to the guys at the magazine soon. Well I gotta go work on putting the finishing touches on the Otakon panel. I also want to say congrats to our friends over at Geeks Next Door for winning the Otakon Comic Contest! We hope to see you guys next week!

Two New Videos!

Nick - writer - posted on Wednesday, 07/23/08 22:23:21 EDT

Hey everybody. Today we have two new videos for you.

First is a video of me playing Stern's Family Guy pinball machine. (Poorly) The first time we shot the video it went too long and it wasn't able to be posted on any of the video sites, so now that I played a REALLY bad game, we're finally able to show off the machine.

Family Guy from Stern

The next video is another interview from NAVA. This time it's Dan from Life in a Game. If you haven't seen the show yet, then you owe it to yourself to check it out! You can view it over at Screw Attack, Life In A Game

Interview with Dan

The Otakon comic is going to be up for another week. We wanted to give it a little more exposure so people can check the comic out and hopefully vote on it for their webcomic contest. We've also been really busy working on the new print comic for Game Trader and we're also at work on the new "10 MORE Games You Should Have Played" panel for Otakon

The panel this year will be taking place on Friday night from 12-1am in Panel Room 1. 2600 and I will be there to show off ten more of our favorite under appreciated games. I also hear the guys from PBC-Productions will be there as well. What their up to is a mystery so we'll find out soon what they have.

Don't forget this Saturday yet again is another NAVA meet up in Clifton New Jersey! We'll be back with our new T-Shirts and DVDs so be sure you come by and pick them up to help support us.

We'll be back on Friday with a new Arcade Review and more from Coldguy.

An Interview with The Angry Video Game Nerd!

Nick - writer - posted on Friday, 07/18/08 22:42:11 EDT

Hey guys. We're really busy so we won't have a comic this week. But we finally got the video interview with James "The Angry Video Game Nerd" Rolfe when we met him over at the last Digital Press NAVA event.

Check out the interview, here!

It was great getting to talk to him, on and off camera. James is a really nice down to earth guy and he loves talking about horror movies and games.

We also got to meet the Nostalgia Critic for the short time he was there. While we didn't get to talk to him on camera he was also a really nice guy and it was great getting to meet him. Even if he was only there for less then an hour. If you haven't checked his site out, be sure you do! That Guy With The Glasses

Well, I'm off for tonight. We're going to be hitting up Castle Video in New Jersey for some pinball and we'll have more videos and pictures for you soon. So for everybody just checking us out from YouTube, welcome and I hope you like what we have!
